In From The Cold...

The Wende Museum in Los Angeles has over 60,000 artifacts from Cold War era Eastern Europe, including: paintings, sculpture, posters, and furniture. By preserving these Cold War artifacts and history the museum provides a way of 'applying historical lessons of the past to the present'.
See more of it's incredible collection here.

Piece by Piece...

When we left NYC one of the things we regretted that we had to leave behind was the fireplace mosaic that artist Judy Robertson had done for us. It was a work of art made of broken tiles, china, marbles and even a few buttons that we never got tired of looking at.  Judy did much larger and high profile mosaics around New York- including the mosaic work at the incredible El Teddy's restaurant in TriBeCa.

Chair-ish...

100 Chairs in 100 Days is an intriguing project by designer Martino Gamper. Using discarded and unwanted chairs Gamper's reassembled them over a 100 day period into new one of a kind creations. While each one explores the potential of design and creativity, he hopes that they also tell a story of their past lives. More here.

Plundering the Past...

Vintage art ( especially art deco and 50's modern)  has always been an inspiration for me. The book Modern Vintage Illustration which is being published next week by Anova Press focuses on contemporary illustrations with a 'retro edge'- including a few 'retro contemporary' works of mine. Two of those are posted above.

New Balls Please...

Sliced, lobbed, drilled, smashed, chopped, spun, dropped, volleyed, and crushed, tennis balls take a beating. Here are some vintage ball can and box graphics from tennis' past. You can see more tennis cans here. To view some tennis related art click here.
