Painted Words...

These 3 dimensional  trompe l'oeil paintings by artist Steve Wolfe not only depict great book cover designs, but also capture the distinct qualities that come with a well read, and worn, book.

Bad Cupid...

This is an image I did recently in between jobs. The figure was based on a cover of one of my vintage paperbacks and combining it with the bullet through the heart gave the image a nice twist (Cupid gone bad?, betrayed love?). I thought it would look good on a T-shirt, so for now I've applied it to some shirts on my Cafepress page.

Pulp Passion...

I recently came across this project by artist Richard Prince ( known for his paperback based 'nurse paintings') for the show, "Louis Vuitton: A Passion for Creation" at the Hong Kong Museum of Art. In a more colorful variation of a Christo work he wrapped the museum's exterior with enlarged 'After Dark' paperback covers.

Pulp Fiction

One of my hobbies is collecting "Good Girl Art" paperbacks. Above are a couple of new additions to that collection that I snatched up on a recent book excursion to Charlottesville VA.

The term Good Girl Art (G.G.A. for short) is collector's lingo referring to the art rather than the seductive and often 'bad' girls illustrated on the covers of these pocket sized pulps, which were churned out by publishers during the 40's - late 60's.

Also attached is a video I made with some of my covers showing the variety of great illustrations and varied genres of these covers. Enjoy.

Under the Knife

Sliced up paperbacks take on a new life in these Thomas Allen photos. I picked up Uncovered on a recent trip to Baltimore at the American Museum of Visionary Art. I really like his work, and being a collector of vintage paperbacks (more on that later) it was hard to pass up.
